Roles determined by Conditions

I'm looking for an automatic way to set the object of the sentence based on the subject of the sentence.
Requiring the respondent to pay for the maintenance of the petitioner;
Given that there are only two roles in the document, respondent and petitioner, if I choose respondent as the Answer for who pays in this or similar clauses, is there an elegant way to have TFT go to petitioner without programming that into each instance? I'm thinking of an is/is not approach.
